Posted: 03 Aug 2017 01:12 AM PDT UDAAN - 2017-19(Brochure)INTRODUCTIONUdaan is a project launched by CBSE under the guidance of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, to address the low enrolment of girl students in prestigious engineering institutions and the teaching gap between school education & engineering entrance examination. The effort is to enrich the teaching & learning of Science and Mathematics at School level by addressing the three dimensions of education - curriculum design, transaction and assessments. The objective is to provide a platform that empowers the girl students, facilitate their aspiration of joining the prestigious engineering institutions and take important role in development/ reduce gap/progress of the country in future. Under this program, students are provided free offline / online resources through virtual weekend contact classes and study material while studying in Class XI and Class XII for preparation of admission test to various premier engineering colleges in the country. IMPORTANCE OF THE PROJECTIndia has made significant progress towards improving access to quality education and in promoting gender equity. Yet girls are under-represented in good quality institutions of higher education and many professional courses. Besides this, it is widely recognized that girls from marginal socio-economic background are at a double disadvantage due to compounded effect of gender and social influences. This gender-gap and poor participation of girls and women in socioeconomic activities have negative repercussions for the development of fastest growing knowledge based economy. In the field of science and technology, girl students are further under represented. Proactive steps, focused approach and additional measures are needed to promote women’s participation in these fields. One of the significant reasons is resource limitation that leads to preferential expenses on the education of male child. Closing the gender gap in all spheres of education is one of the important benchmarks for development. It is envisaged that Udaan will help bridge this gap by improving the socioeconomic status of girls and women through increased participation in professional education. Girls’ education does not only increase their abilities to deal with the problems of her personal and professional life, but the educational achievements of women can have ripple effects in the societal transformation efforts. Nurturing scientific talent and addressing gender equity is crucial to meeting country’s sustainable development goals. OBJECTIVES• To address the challenge of low enrolment of girls in technical education institutes. • To enable and empower the girl students to fulfill their aspiration of technical education. • To minimize the gap between school education & engineering entrance examination. • To enrich and enhance teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics at senior secondary level SPECIAL FEATURESUdaan is designed to provide a comprehensive platform to deserving girl students who aspire to pursue higher education in engineering and support them to prepare for the entrance examinations while studying in classes XI and XII. The following are the salient features of this program -
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
METHODOLOGYThe selected students will have access to an online portal which will be organized on the basis of classes XI and XII with three subject streams - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This portal will have content in the form of videos, tutorials and text. Concepts will be organized based on the learning taking place in the classroom as per the syllabus of classes XI and XII. Once enrolled for the programme, progress of the student will be monitored and tracked on their learning pace. Periodic contact classes will enable update on the progress made by the student. Assessments are built into the learning process and will allow monitoring of student’s learning. Students will have interactive group where they will be able to interact with their peers and teachers.
