(News) CBSE's YouTube channel 'CBSE Udaan' is getting popularityCBSE's YouTube channel 'CBSE Udaan' is gaining popularity with viewership for both recorded videos and live webcasts. Udaan is a central government project that aims to address the low enrolment ratio of girl students in IITs and other premier engineering colleges. The webcast provides coaching in related subjects to its target audience, basically girls from Std XI and XII. The webcasts are a way to enrich the teaching and learning of science and mathematics at school level by addressing the three dimensions of education — curriculum design, transaction and assessments. The initiative provides a platform that empowers the girl students, facilitates their aspiration of joining prestigious engineering institutions, and take important role in development/ progress of the country in future. Under this programme, students are provided free offline and online resources through virtual weekend contact classes and study material on pre-loaded tablet while studying in Std XI—XII for preparation of admission tests to various premier engineering colleges in the country. The Udaan scheme is open to all female Indian citizens who are enrolled in Std XI in physics, chemistry and mathematics stream. They should have scored minimum 70% marks in Std X overall and 80% marks in science and mathematics. For boards which follow CGPA, like CBSE, this translates into a minimum CGPA of 8 and a GPA of 9 in Science and Mathematics. The government has also put in a financial criteria saying that the annual family income should be less than Rs6 lakhs per annum.
