CBSE 2017-18 Syllabus Class-9 : Mathematics Posted: 23 Aug 2017 11:28 PM PDT
CBSE Class-9 Syllabus 2017-18
Subject: MathematicsThe Syllabus in the subject of Mathematics has undergone changes from time to time in accordance with growth of the subject and emerging needs of the society. The present revised syllabus has been designed in accordance with National Curriculum Framework 2005 and as per guidelines given in the Focus Group on Teaching of Mathematics which is to meet the emerging needs of all categories of students. For motivating the teacher to relate the topics to real life problems and other subject areas, greater emphasis has been laid on applications of various concepts. The curriculum at Secondary stage primarily aims at enhancing the capacity of students to employ Mathematics in solving day-to-day life problems and studying the subject as a separate discipline. It is expected that students should acquire the ability to solve problems using algebraic methods and apply the knowledge of simple trigonometry to solve problems of height and distances. Carrying out experiments with numbers and forms of geometry, framing hypothesis and verifying these with further observations form inherent part of Mathematics learning at this stage. The proposed curriculum includes the study of number system, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, statistics, graphs and coordinate geometry, etc. The teaching of Mathematics should be imparted through activities which may involve the use of concrete materials, models, patterns, charts, pictures, posters, games, puzzles and experiments. Objectives The broad objectives of teaching of Mathematics at secondary stage are to help the learners to: • consolidate the Mathematical knowledge and skills acquired at the upper primary stage; • acquire knowledge and understanding, particularly by way of motivation and visualization, of basic concepts, terms, principles and symbols and underlying processes and skills; • develop mastery of basic algebraic skills; • develop drawing skills; • feel the flow of reason while proving a result or solving a problem; • apply the knowledge and skills acquired to solve problems and wherever possible, by more than one method; • to develop ability to think, analyze and articulate logically; CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOADCourtesy: CBSE | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

A point charge Q is placed at point ‘O’ as shown in the figure. Is the potential at point A, i.e. VA , greater, smaller or equal to potential, VB , at point B, when Q is (i) positive, and (ii) negative charge ? O. A. B. 2. Write the expression for speed of electromagnetic waves in a medium of electrical permittivity and magnetic permeability . 3. Does the magnifying power of a microscope depend on the colour of the light used ? Justify your answer. 4. Draw logic symbol of an OR gate and write its truth table. 5. A photosensitive surface emits photoelectrons when red light falls on it. Will the surface emit photoelectrons when blue light is incident on it ? Give reason. 6. Find the intensity at a point on a screen in Young’s double slit experiment where the interfering waves of equal intensity have a path difference of (i) /4, and (ii) /3. 7. Write two points of difference between intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors. 8. Distinguish between broadcast mode and point-to-point mode of communication and give one example for each. 9. A light bulb and a solenoid are connected in series across an ac source of voltage. Explain, how the glow of the light bulb will be affected when an iron rod is inserted in the solenoid. 10.Use the mirror equation to show that an object placed between f and 2f of a concave mirror forms an image beyond 2f. OR (a) State the condition under which a large magnification can be achieved in an astronomical telescope. CBSE Class-12 Exam 2017 : Foreign Scheme Question Paper, English (Core) Posted: 23 Aug 2017 12:45 AM PDT CBSE Class-12 Exam 2017 : Foreign SchemeQuestion Paper, English (Core)CBSE Class-12 Exam 2017 : English (Core)1. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow : 12 1 We sit in the last row, bumped about but free of stares. The bus rolls out of the dull crossroads of the city, and we are soon in open countryside, with fields of sunflowers as far as the eye can see, their heads all facing us. Where there is no water, the land reverts to desert. While still on level ground, we see in the distance the tall range of the Mount Bogda, abrupt like a shining prism laid horizontally on the desert surface. It is over 5,000 metres high, and the peaks are under permanent snow, in powerful contrast to the flat desert all around. Heaven Lake lies part of the way up this range, about 2,000 metres above sea-level, at the foot of one of the higher snow-peaks. 2 As the bus climbs, the sky, brilliant before, grows overcast. I have brought nothing warm to wear: it is all down at the hotel in Urumqi. Rain begins to fall. The man behind me is eating overpoweringly smelly goat‖s cheese. The bus window leaks inhospitably but reveals a beautiful view. We have passed quickly from desert through arable land to pasture, and the ground is now green with grass, the slopes dark with pine. A few cattle drink at a clear stream flowing past moss-covered stones; it is a Constable landscape. The stream changes into a white torrent, and as we climb higher I wish more and more that I had brought with me something warmer than the pair of shorts that have served me so well in the desert. The stream (which, we are told, rises in Heaven Lake) disappears, and we continue our slow ascent. About noon, we arrive at Heaven Lake, and look for a place to stay at the foot, which is the resort area. We get a room in a small cottage, and I am happy to note that there are thick quilts on the beds. 3 Standing outside the cottage we survey our surroundings. Heaven Lake is long, sardine-shaped and fed by snowmelt from a stream at its head. The lake is an intense blue, surrounded on all sides by green mountain walls, dotted with distant sheep. At the head of the lake, beyond the delta of the inflowing stream, is a massive snow-capped peak which dominates the vista; it is part of a series of peaks that culminate, a little out of view, in Mount Bogda itself. 4 For those who live in the resort, there is a small mess-hall by the shore. We eat here sometimes, and sometimes buy food from the vendors outside, who sell kabab and naan until the last buses leave. The kababs, cooked on skewers over charcoal braziers, are particularlygood; highly spiced and well-done. Horse‖s milk is available too from the local Kazakh herdsmen, but I decline this. I am so affected by the cold that Mr. Cao, the relaxed young man who runs the mess, lends me a spare pair of trousers, several sizes too large but more than comfortable. Once I am warm again, I feel a pre-dinner spurt of energy — dinner will be long in coming — and I ask him whether the lake is good for swimming in.
